Abstract

This article displays the results of an auditory and acoustic analysis of Spanish consonants as uttered by fourteen American learners of Spanish as a foreign language. These results were compared with an analysis of the same consonants produced by a Spanish native speaker from Concepción, Chile. The segments were grouped into five main categories according to the main phonetic and phonological traits identified during their utterance by foreign speakers.
